“I am light” is a celebration of light and the promise of a brighter future after spending much of the previous 2 years alone in lockdown.
I painted this work outside (“plein air”) in the summer, smiling to myself as I sat at an outside at a table at a cafe in the heart of the Melbourne CBD gazing at the trees across the road, and serenaded by the sound of relaxed, cheerful conversation and occasional tinkling laughter of the people at the tables around me.
I painted all but the final layers without looking at the page, to keep my movements and rhythms as true as possible to what I was seeing shimmer through the trees that surrounded me.
I used acrylic, gouache, marker, and ink on 320gsm acid free paper, 40.5cm x 29.5cm (16” x 11.5”).
Signed on the front and the back.
