I am so thrilled to have started work on a new series today, "Drawing With Strangers"! Scary but exciting, I'm getting my brave on in the name of better social connection and creativity for everyone, approaching strangers to make art with me. I've drawn with strangers before, but never like this and on this scale! I'll be creating 10 works, each on high quality Khadi paper circles that are 56cm diameter.
I tried to start yesterday but chickened out when it came time to approach a stranger. Today I tried again! I had a wonderful friend with me for moral support. The first stranger I asked said "no". The second person said "yes"!
This is an exercise in creating a body of work AND an exercise in healing: growing a bigger and brighter world for myself and the people who participate with me, and proving to myself again that the world is safe place after suffering some pretty debilitating PTSD.
I am drawing myself a stronger, braver, brighter world and drawing strangers together. We all deserve to feel safe in public spaces, to be socially connected, to be creative and to have fun!
This is a close up progress photo of the first collaborative drawing for this series. Artists: Rose Wintergreen, Dean Karanikos, Laura Flynn. More to come!
